How It Works (No Science Degree Necessary)
The secret behind TORQ is a physics principle called a Helmholtz resonator. It sounds complicated, but you’ve actually seen it in action since you were a kid.
Remember blowing across the top of an empty glass bottle to make a whistle? If you add some water to the bottle, the pitch changes. The size of the empty space inside the bottle controls the exact frequency of the sound it makes.
We use that exact science on your exhaust.
Vehicles create specific harsh frequencies at certain RPMs. That sound wave travels through your exhaust ports to the manifold and through the entire exhaust pipes into your cab. To eliminate that frequency (without affecting your power or airflow), we weld a precisely sized hollow chamber—the TORQ resonator—to the side of the main exhaust.
Fighting Sound With Sound
When the exhaust sound waves rush past this chamber, the annoying "drone" frequency gets pushed inside. It bounces off the back wall of the chamber and fires right back into the exhaust stream.
Here is where physics kicks in. The returning sound wave is perfectly timed to be "out of phase" with the wave coming from the engine. When the two waves collide, they completely cancel each other, like two ocean waves crashing head-on and flattening out the water.
We pinpoint the exact frequency that causes this drone and build the TORQ resonator to the right size needed to neutralize it.
